CALLAWAY — The shooting death of a 19-year-old in Callaway over the weekend has netted several new arrests, though the man the Bay County Sheriff’s Office says pulled the trigger is still at large.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Jacorien Keion Thomas, 23, shot Demetrius Traylor with a handgun he believed was empty, then dragged Traylor’s body out of the mobile home at 5824 Cherry St. and left his body in the dirt in a common area of the mobile home park in an attempt to make the incident look like a drive-by shooting.
Thomas then enlisted the others in the mobile home to clean up the scene with “bleach and other cleaning products,” according to arrest reports. Thomas may have also instructed others in the trailer park to tell law enforcement that Traylor was killed in a drive-by shooting, according to investigators.
After cleaning the scene, Thomas approached Amanda Rodriguez and Dexter Johnson for a ride to get away from the mobile home park. According to arrest reports, Rodriquez dropped Thomas and Johnson off at La Brisa Inn.
Brittany Robinson, 21, and Amanda Rodriguez, 29, who live at the residence, were arrested Saturday and charged with accessory to manslaughter with a firearm. Both were held on $10,000 bond after their first appearance Sunday.
Johnson, 28, was later arrested and charged with accessory to manslaughter with a firearm. At his first appearance Monday afternoon, the state said Johnson “went to great lengths” to conceal Thomas’ identity and that his interference slowed down the investigation by hours. He was held on $15,000 bond.
Also impeding the investigation were false statements given to law enforcement by residents of the trailer park, according to BCSO. On Monday, investigators returned to the park and arrested five additional individuals on charges both related and unrelated to the case.
Shawn Richardson, 33, Tessia Chancellor, 38, and Bruce Hopson, 50, were charged with providing false information during a felony investigation. Nikkaro Woodfaulk, 20, was arrested for resisting without violence, false information to law enforcement officer, and violation of probation. Also arrested was Venteria Porter, 20, for violation of probation and renting a vehicle with intent to defraud.
As of press time, Thomas, who according to arrest records goes by the street name Thugga Thugga, is still at large. Arrest warrants have been issued for him for manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to the Florida Department of Corrections website, Thomas was released from prison in May after serving a 20 month sentence for battery on a law enforcement officer and burglary.
Anyone with information on Thomas is asked to contact the Bay County Sheriff’s Office at 747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.

Thoughts? As of this posting date (4/8/2018), Thomas still has an active warrant according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) public access wanted persons search: pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsf
It seems from reading official articles what witnesses say (my summary of it) is that Thomas was fooling around with the gun when Demetrius warned him to be careful. Thomas said it was empty and pointed at him, pulling the trigger and shooting him.
However, in another article, Demetrius' mother is not buying the story that Thomas thought the gun was empty and that this was an accidental shooting, mentioning the conflicting stories of witnesses.
My feeling is if Thomas is indeed the shooter, even if this was an accident, he is still responsible for manslaughter. You do not point a gun at someone unless you know for sure there are no bullets in there, or better yet don't point a gun at all in the first place because you need to show off as a result of your fragile masculinity. Thomas, if guilty, is in my opinion a reckless and dangerous idiot at the very least, and something more sinister at worst.
But even the most "innocent" scenario doesn't exactly shine a positive light on Thomas and he needs to do the right thing and turn himself in. If this really was an "accident", then the chances of a judge being lenient on him if he's convicted will continue to diminish the longer he stays on the run.
