Has anybody else noticed that drunk-driving fugitives are some of the most elusive that AMW profiles? I don't know what it is about alleged drunk drivers who have killed someone, but AMW just seems to have rotten luck when it comes to catching them.
Just a few cases I can think of:
Michele Comstock (first profiled in 1993) - In 1990, Comstock was driving drunk after visiting several bars when she crashed her car into a home, killing a five-year-old boy who was sleeping on the couch. Comstock bailed and ran home, but was caught hours later. She bonded out and disappeared, and is still at large after almost 24 years.
Sarkis Peltekian (first profiled in 1994) - Drunk driver who spun out in his souped-up Camero and crashed into a pickup truck that was carrying nine teenagers. The truck flipped over into a train yard several feet below, killing all but two of the teens. Despite killing seven young people, Peltekian bonded out less than 48 hours later and is still gone.
Martin Altamirano (first profiled in 2000) - During the middle of the day, Altamirano was driving drunk and speeding when he slammed into a car being driven by a woman. The woman was killed, but her young daughter survived. Altamirano bonded out and disappeared shortly after the incident.
Gloria Schulze (first profiled c. 1995) - Killed a young woman while out driving drunk late one night. In tragic irony, the victim was an anti-drunk driving advocate who was actually driving to a party to give a friend a ride home. Schulze bonded out and disappeared.
So why does it seem like these types of criminals are so difficult to capture? Any ideas?

I don't know if anyone remembers this but I actually mentioned this on the old forum! It is weird. My best guess is drunk-driving fugitives may not necessarily be career or "hardened" criminals and don't stand out since they are seemingly normal people with a deadly vice. In other words, a fugitive wanted for rape or child molestation is unfortunately likely to re-offend. And if they're creepy enough, they may arouse suspicion. Other types criminals too can arouse suspicion. It is a bit weird since these fugitives you'd think were alcoholics and would one day drive drunk and get pulled over where authorities discover who they are but it hasn't happened. But as far as spotting goes, if your next door neighbor is a child molester, he may give you the creeps. But if your next door neighbor is an alcoholic, you just think they have a drinking problem. Why would anyone think they may have killed someone? I hope this sound too rambling but in summary my theory is drunk driving fugitives stay under the radar because asides from when they drink they live normal unassuming lives and don't engage in any excess criminal activity.

I feel they don’t live normal unassuming lives at this point, because they are on the run...Most of them even are living under assumed identity’s witch is illegal...It may of started as a drunk driving case but at this point they all have been breaking even more laws by being on the run....to me this is not a normal life............
