 (Above photo credit: US Department of Justice website) Samuel Klaus Burchard is wanted by the DEA on drug trafficking charges. He was first aired on AMW on an early 1988 episode and was featured on AMW: Final Justice. Burchard had been involved in drug smuggling since at least the early 1970s, mainly being a pilot that smuggled marijuana and cocaine. Eventually he got involved in smuggling drug loads from South America to the United States. He even became the manager of an airport for several weeks in 1985. On Feb 13, 1986, Burchard and his Colombian accomplice, Manuel Antonio Penaranda-Velez, were in a plane which got into a chase with US customs agents. Burchard flew the plane across four Southeastern US states, agents noticing bags of cocaine being thrown from the plane over Alabama and Mississippi. Burchard landed the plane at the Collegedale, Tennessee airport and fled, Manuel being caught shortly after. A close friend of Burchard drove him to Miami and Burchard was last believed to be in the Bahamas in 1986. Thoughts? Burchard would be about 70-years old by now, so if his involvement in drug trafficking didn't lead to his death, he's probably retired from drug trafficking and is living a good life in Latin America or the Caribbean due to his connections. Two things I found that I find interesting. The first is a online mention of a will from a Ruth Burchard in Georgia that's addressed to three people, including a Samuel Klaus Burchard. (EDIT): We know now that Ruth was Samuel's uncle's wife.Second is that Burchard was on the DEA's Most Wanted website until a few years ago and I have no idea as to why they removed him. I didn't find anything online that would indicate he was located. UPDATE from site admin: I have not found any new articles online about the manhunt for Burchard in the past few years. As far as I can tell, he is still technically at large as of this update (7/26/2018), since I haven't found anything online suggesting otherwise. However, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they are always more than welcome to let us know. Admin Note #1: There is limited information found on the internet to make a fugitive profile of Samuel Klaus Burchard (Height, current age etc) and no police line for tips found either. Didn't know that about his wife, pretty crazy.
He almost seems like a movie fugitive. Guy makes money through pretty crazy high-risk crimes, gets away with it, and retires to a tropical island, which seems like the most likely scenario here. I'm not trying to glamorize him in anyway since he still should answer for his crimes. But I agree he is likely still alive and living in the Caribbean somewhere since he's really not that old.

I'm curious if she was Samuel's wife and if so, if she ever had any knowledge of where her husband fled to.
