Every once in awhile you see someone running for political office that has a connection to AMW. This year, one race in Georgia will see someone with an AMW connection trying to unseat an incumbent. In Georgia's 4th Congressional District, incumbent Congressman Hank Johnson is being challenged in the primary by former DeKalb County Sheriff Tom Brown. Johnson has been known for his quirky statements and actions, including saying he thinks Guam will capsize into the ocean (which is impossible), and Brown is positioning himself as a more serious candidate. Brown actually has an interesting connection with AMW. He took over as DeKalb County Sheriff in 2001, following the murder of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown (no relation). Former Sheriff Sidney Dorsey was charged with the murder. atr.rollcall.com/hank-johnson-faces-first-serious-primary-threat-in-georgia/Here's where the AMW connection comes in; AMW profiled the murder of Derwin Brown in May 2001. The arrest was indirect, but it's still interesting. As an AMW fan, I get really excited when I see someone with a connection to the show seeks political office. Bill Keating, who was one of the prosecutors for the Tuen Lee case, is now a congressman from Massachusetts' 9th Congressional District. He was interviewed the first time Lee's full profile aired, but he was cut out of subsequent airings. Also, Patty Wetterling, Jacob Wetterling's mother, ran for Congress in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District in both 2004 and 2006. In 2006 she was defeated by, of all people, Michele Bachmann.

I don't think he's ever been on AMW but Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan is involved with the Claudia Hoerig case, as mentioned in the update I posted. Also, another crazy connection on political and other levels is in relation to Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, who ran for Congress in South Carolina but lost to former Governor Mark Sanford. She is the ex-wife of AMW direct capture #304, con artist Robert Legare, and of course, Stephen Colbert's sister. Also, I rarely get too political on here but while there are crazy people in each party, I think there is bi-partisan agreement Michelle Bachmann is a certified nutcase. My only guess it wasn't known back then just how crazy she was. Plus this is the state that also elected Jesse Ventura, a pro wrestler, Governor. So although I can't comment on Ventura's tenure since I wasn't there, it does seem they have a history of voting in unique choices.
