From the San Francisco Chronicle (sfchronicle.com):
Prison officials are still searching for a minimum-security inmate who escaped from Folsom State Prison on Saturday, and authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in locating him.
Justin Franks, 27, disappeared from the facility Dec. 22 and was discovered missing during a 9 p.m. inmate count. Officials from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation did not release any further details on his escape but noted he was last seen two hours prior to the count.
After Franks’ disappearance, on-duty employees immediately began searching the area surrounding the Represa facility, which is located about 20 miles northeast of Sacramento. Prison officials additionally notified local law enforcement, and search efforts have since continued.
Franks is described as 5-foot-10, 143 pounds and he has brown eyes and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and blue pants with the words “CDCR Prisoner” written on them.
Franks was convicted for first-degree burglary out of San Bernardino County and was booked into prison in July 2018. He received a three-year, four-month sentence for the conviction, and was scheduled to be released in June 2019.
Folsom is the state’s second-oldest prison, housing about 2,800 medium-security, general population inmates. The complex includes a minimum-security facility just outside the main security perimeter. The facility has a chain-link fence topped with razor wire.
Officials said 99 percent of all offenders who have escaped California prison custody since 1977 have been apprehended.
Anyone with information on Franks’ whereabouts can call Agent Lewis Leflore in the Special Services Unit in Sacramento at 916-631-0175. Authorities have asked anyone who sees Franks to immediately contact law enforcement or call 911.

Thoughts? I found out about this case after looking for updates on another California prison escapee case from this past week. That escapee, Shalom Mendoza, was apprehended. As far as I can tell Justin Franks is still at large as of this posting date (12/30/2018) since Fugitive Watch just did a story on him.
Also, what I don't get is why Franks felt the need to escape considering he had only roughly six months left on his sentence. While first degree burglary won't put him away for life even with an escape, he has essentially guaranteed himself at least a few additional months prison time if not more once he's finally caught.
