LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
On Thanksgiving Day, family and friends of a young man gunned down in November 2016, gathered at Jefferson Square Park. The case has so far been unsolved, and loved ones were hoping to draw attention to Stephan Faulkner's death.
"Last night while everybody was preparing their food I was preparing to do this. I was preparing to speak on my son," Tracy Faulkner said.
On a day she usually dreads, Faulkner found the courage to speak publicly on her son's murder.
"I usually don't come out for Thanksgiving since Stephan got murdered a week before Thanksgiving and that was our last conversation. That was his favorite holiday. This is my first year up, out of the bed," Tracy Faulkner admitted.
Stephan Faulkner, 19, was killed while sitting on the front porch of her Ratcliffe Avenue home. She had been inside and heard the gunshots that took her son's life on Nov. 17, 2016.
"This was not a phone call, this happened while I was in my house, it was like my son got murdered in front of me and there was nothing I could do," Faulkner said.
Still, on this Thanksgiving Faulkner said she felt blessed by the family that surrounded her and the justice she believes she will one day have.
"I know it's going to happen. I might not get it today. I might not get it in 10 years but I know it's going to happen, and today I'm praying for justice and begging for justice," she said.
On the night Stephan Faulkner was killed, he had been hanging out with a friend on his mother's porch. That teen was also shot, but survived.
Unfortunately, neither he, nor anyone who had been inside the home was able to provide police with much.
