Not only am I shocked and horrified at the crime Eusebio "Chevo" Deleon is accused of, but I am extremely angry because there is no reason he should currently be a fugitive in the first place.
Erika Cantu Deleon, 34, died on March 28th, 2012, two days after being found bloodied and beaten in her Falfurrias, Texas home. Police had their suspect immediately- her husband, 40-year old Eusbeio "Chevo" Deleon. They believe Eusbeio Deleon beat Erika with a five-pound dumbbell and wrapped an ironing cord around her neck.
After her murder would be the first time Eusebio Deleon would become a fugitive. Authorities finally caught up to him after he drove to Ann Arbor, Michigan and asked a hospital for medication. Suspicious staff contacted authorities and he was arrested, which should have been the end to this saga.
In October of 2013, Deleon was released on $500,000 bond before his scheduled trial. The family was obviously upset and warned Eusebio could go on the run again. They also claimed Deleon made threats against them.
And sure enough, they were right. The only restriction placed on Deleon was an ankle monitor. In December of 2013, he cut it off and fled. He is now a fugitive for a second time.
I personally am extremely angry here. How the heck does a guy who was not only accused of murder but was also a FUGITIVE get any bail even if it was a high amount (which he still posted)? Just being accused of murder should be bad enough, but being what was an obvious flight risk should have sealed the deal to deny bond.
Let's make up for the failure of the court system, and finally and hopefully bring Eusebio "Chevo" Deleon to justice.
