The body of 22 year old Kimberly M. Ratliff was found with her throat slashed in a car left on the parking lot of Peoples Natural Gas, 1414 West Broadway. An employee made the discovery at about 10:40 a.m. on January 12, 1999. It is believed the car with the body inside had been parked on the lot over the weekend. To this day, no witnesses have come forward and police have not been able to gather enough evidence to charge anyone with the crime. Thoughts? Kimberly lived with her mother and stepfather. Her birth father has accused her Stepfather, Les Kennedy, of playing a role in her death. Kennedy for years alegedly had sexually abused his own daughter and sons as well as his stepchildren, and was fighting for custody for all of his grandchildren. Some individuals contacted Iowa Cold Cases independently to express concerns about Kennedy’s alleged possessiveness with Kimberly as well as the alleged sexual molestation at the hands of her stepfather.
It is important to note that up to this point Les Kennedy has not been charged with Kimberly Ratliff's murder and this website is not specifically accusing him of playing a role, we are simply summarizing Iowa Cold Cases' report on her case.
