From ktuu.com (NBC Anchorage) (2016 article):
ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - More than a decade since he was murdered in a crowded parking lot, family members of Louis DeJesus are pleading with the public to come forward with information that could help put the killer behind bars.
“If any other senseless murders take place by the person who murdered my nephew, you have helped that person commit another murder because you didn’t stand up and speak out,” said Rene Rouzan, uncle of DeJesus.
Rouzan says he still can't believe not one person has come forward with an eyewitness account about the murder of his his 21-year-old nephew, a nephew he feels was more like a son.
On Oct 12 2002, Louis DeJesus was shot multiple times in the Muldoon VFW parking lot. Dectetive Slav Markiewicz says there were likely "a few dozen" bystanders at the time of the shooting.
"I'm not saying that they didn't want to talk to the police or were reluctant," says Det. Markiewicz, "but maybe they didn't feel they had good information at the time. But I would encourage those people to contact us and let us evaluate."
Prior to the shooting, Det. Markiewicz says there was fight inside the VFW where DeJesus was assaulted. A person was charged with assault for that incident but there was nothing linking that person to the murder.
Rouzan believes someone knows who the shooter was because he's heard DeJesus was involved in a fight at bars prior to visiting the VFW that night. Rouzan says it was the same group that kept after his nephew.
"When you keep your mouth shut, darkness prevails and that's why it's important for you to stand up," says Rouzan.
