From pantagraph.com- Cold Cases of Central Illinois story:
On July 20, 2013, 59-year-old Terry Punke was wounded from a gunshot fired from a handgun less than 50 yards away while working in his El Paso backyard. His wife, Danita Punke, was inside their home when she heard a loud bang. Moments later, she heard him yelling for help. Covered in blood, he was able to communicate, but did not know what happened. He got progressively worse until he died four days later. Anyone with information on the Terry Punke case should contact the Woodford County Sheriff's Office at 309-467-2375 or Crime Stoppers at 309-673-9000.

2013 article: www.pantagraph.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/family-wants-answers-after-el-paso-fatal-shooting/article_2401b162-249a-11e3-9762-0019bb2963f4.html
Thoughts? This is a bizarre case in that Terry Punke had no known enemies according to that 2013 article. One would think perhaps it was a stray bullet from target practice but there are no gun ranges nearby also according to the Pantagraph story. Still, in the article, Terry's wife is convinced he was killed by accident, and does not want the person to be in jail for the rest of their life, just for them to come forward so they know what happened.
I too hope this is an accident although in my opinion it is still a potential negligent homicide case as opposed to first degree homicide case. However, the longer the culprit the person stays out there without taking responsibility, the harsher a judge will be if they ever are caught
