From Five Valleys Crime Stoppers:
On Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, Susan Wood was brutally murdered. Susan’s friends and family mourn her loss, and the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to seeking justice for Susan.
Susan was a 45 year old woman and a Missoula resident for over a decade. Susan was employed by a local cleaning service and was a long term dedicated employee. All of Susan’s friends and family say she was a quiet person, who got along with everyone she met. Susan preferred to walk and ride the bus everywhere she went. Susan was a writer and dreamed of living on the Oregon coast one day. Susan lived with and cared for 2 birds that she rescued and nursed back to health.
Detectives with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office are continuing the investigation into Susan’s death. Susan was found on Coal Mine road on March 3rd, 2018, at 8:33 pm., by a jogger who was in the area. Susan had sustained a severe head injury. This injury led to Susan’s death approximately 2 weeks later, and detectives are now investigating this incident as a homicide. We continue to follow several leads and field many tips for this on-going and active investigation.
We know that Susan’s normal routine was to ride the bus from her home on Stephens Ave., to the North Reserve area. Then she would walk the remaining way to work at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Susan was a contracted custodian who worked mostly night shifts.
The investigation thus far has revealed Susan was last seen walking Northbound on the east side of the Reserve Street on the Broadway overpass. She was seen crossing over West Broadway at approximately 7:10 pm. A review of surveillance videos from local businesses show that Susan did not make it much further than the area of the Reserve St. and Stockyard road Intersection (which is located on the north end of the overpass). From the investigation, it is apparent that Susan had an unfortunate encounter that led to her death sometime between 7:10 pm when she was last seen on Reserve St. and 8:33 pm., where she was found on Coal mine road.
At this time we are asking the public for any information they may have regarding Susan or the events that led to her death. If you were in the area of North Reserve St. or Coal Mine Road between 7:10 pm and 8:30 pm on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018, and you believe you may have information regarding this Homicide, please contact CrimeStoppers (and remain anonymous) at (406) 721-4444. Thoughts? The last update on Susan's case I could find on Susan's case was from late June when Missoula sheriff's detectives were granted a warrant to search a Ford Bronco and swab it for DNA.
As far as I can tell, the search for her killer is still ongoing as of this posting date. (10/19/2018).
