From 17 Nashville: (fox17.com):
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The murder of a father, church member and Nissan engineer remains unsolved three years later.
Gregg Hawkins, 53, was shot to death while walking to his truck at Mona Boat Ramp on Oct. 16, 2015. His adult daughter, Brandi, was waiting in the leaves behind the truck when he was killed.
Gregg had taken a day off from work on the day we was murdered. His daughter Brandi was in town on fall break from college and the two were going fishing.
"It's difficult to digest, it makes you sick," Hawkins brother Darren Hawkins said about the circumstances under which Gregg died.
Now three years later and no suspects, the Hawkins family is making an emotional plea for anyone with information to come forward.
"This didn't just happen three years ago," Hawkins wife Janet said through teary eyes at a news conference on Monday. "Every night I go to bed, I thank God I made it through the day. And then I have to get up and go through another one."
Hawkins was a beloved husband, father, fisherman, Nissan engineer and avid member of the World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro. A $50,000 reward is offered in his murder case, which includes a $10,000 reward from Gov. Bill Haslam and funds from family and friends.
Detectives think people may have heard details about the shooting at the time of the murder, but haven't come forward with information.
"Any information that you may have, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, please call us," Detective Lt. Todd Sparks said. "It may be the one piece that we're missing. It may lead us in a direction that we have not been down to before."
Gregg's daughter said someone out there knows who killed her dad, and that person owes it to the community to come forward.
"Just think over the past three years how many people could have interacted with this person who killed my dad," Brandi Jackson pleaded. "And over the past three years there's some people who have willingly acted with this person who killed my dad and you know exactly who it is. It's your duty to this community to get that person off the streets. Do the right thing and come forward."
Anyone who heard details about the murder, was in the boat dock area between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. the day of Hawkins' death or has descriptions of suspicious people in the area, driving recklessly or speeding, is asked to come forward.
"This is a little bit different of a situation, it's not like the manhunt that took place a couple weeks ago. They knew who that person was, they knew who they were. But look at the resources it took to finally capture him," Darren Hawkins said. "That's why we're asking you today, all of us, y'all are our resources."
Anyone with information should call 615-904-3046 or 615-904-3076.

Thoughts? According to other articles I've found on this heartbreaking case, it is believed the most likely scenario is that Gregg Hawkins had encountered someone breaking into vehicles when he was shot and killed. Cases like this, where it seems someone who didn't know the victim committed the murder, are always more difficult to solve. But hopefully with the increased effort in local Tennessee media at least, it will help lead to a suspect or suspects.
