Details of Disappearance
Whitmer was last seen by her mother in Springfield, Ohio on May 28, 2016. She'd gone to visit her mother for her mother's birthday. Whitmer normally kept in touch with her mother at least every three months, but after the birthday visit her mother never saw or heard from her again.
A local police officer who was familiar with Whitmer had seen her near Selma Road and York Street in Springfield; this is an area noted for its prostitution activity, and she has a previous history of prostitution. Whitmer's mother went to that location several times to look for her, but never saw her.
Whitmer's mother made several attempts to report her missing, but investigators refused to take a report until May 9, 2017, almost a year after she was last seen. Her whereabouts are unknown and her case remains unsolved.

Thoughts? I must say I am very disappointed authorities didn't take a report for an entire year. It doesn't say the reason but my hunch is because of her history of prostitution, they considered her not missing but homeless/living on the streets. However, when the parent who says her child always contacts her at least every three months is that concerned and frequently tries to report her missing, it should be taken a little more seriously. (I am usually hesitant to criticize law enforcement on our forum since I know what tough a job they all have and on occasion I've worked with them with stuff like tips on cases, but this aspect upset me).
At the end of the day, Amber, despite what life troubles she may have, is still a human being with a mother that loves her and is concerned about her. I hope she is one day located safe and alive.
