According to Newslibrary archives, in 2005, authorities took DNA samples from "an associate of a convicted murderer" in connection with the Christine Gallegos murder. There doesn't seem to be any further updates since then but it makes sense if this is a case of waiting for enough evidence before making an indictment.
EDIT: According to 1989 and 1993 Newslibrary articles, some investigators believed Christine and four other people were killed during the mid 1980's by a local street gang, not a "Ted Bundy type of killer".
