From the VC Star website (Ventura County, California):
On Monday, the anniversary of a Camarillo woman's unsolved murder in Nyeland Acres, police sent out a plea.
"Today marks the one-year anniversary of the senseless murder of Alexis Jean Lopez," the Oxnard Police Department wrote in a news release, adding police need "the assistance of the Ventura County community" to solve the crime.
Lopez, 26 at the time of her death, had been sitting in her pickup truck at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Santa Clara Avenue at about 9:46 p.m. when she was fatally shot on Oct. 8, 2017, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was a Sunday night. Lopez was in the truck with a male acquaintance from El Rio who was then 27. He also was shot but survived. Department officials said Monday the male victim hasn't been able to provide any additional information in the case.
The truck, described Monday as a black Chevrolet Silverado, had been in the left-turn pocket on Ventura Boulevard, where it would have turned left onto Santa Clara. A traffic light at the intersection was likely red, police said.
The site is in the mostly unincorporated Nyeland Acres community on the north side of Highway 101. But because the crime happened in the intersection, authorities said Monday, it occurred in Oxnard's jurisdiction.
The male victim's name has been withheld, and police have not disclosed the type of firearms used. Other details, such as whether the shooter or shooters approached on foot or in a vehicle, are also either not known or have not been made public.
Both victims were shot with multiple rounds, Sgt. Scott Aaron said Monday.
Authorities want anyone who witnessed or has information about the incident to come forward.
"We've run through numerous leads," Aaron said, and "looked at everybody we know" who was involved.
"We're asking for the public's help to obtain more information," he said.
Lopez grew up in Santa Paula and Camarillo and graduated from Camarillo High School, according to her online obituary. She had two children, according to the obituary.
Oxnard police investigators believe "there are people in the community that have information" that could help them solve the case, the department's release states. The city offers a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of suspects in homicide cases.
