From Fox 2 Detroit: (fox2detroit.com):
DETROIT (WJBK) - A routine stop at a corner gas station ended in tragedy for one Detroit family.
Now, one year after 35-year-old Paul Ross was killed, whoever is responsible still hasn't been caught.
On the night of September 23, 2017, Ross and his nephew pulled up to the Sunoco gas station at the corner of Van Dyke and Grinnell on Detroit's east side - not knowing violence was just around the corner.
"It traumatized me. I still think about it until this day." says Ross' nephew, D'Juan Rushing.
On security video, the two are seen walking out of the gas station. D'Juan started pumping gas when Ross got back in the car. Then, maybe 30 seconds later, gunfire started -- and Ross was struck in the head.
With loud cars going up and down the road, unfortunately there was no way of knowing which direction the shots came from. This tragedy appears to be a case of innocent bystanders getting caught in the crossfire.
"It's hard losing my son. You know, you never forget. It hurts so bad." says Pamela Ross.
You can see D'Juan back inside the gas station calling 911. Investigators tell us it appears a fight among a large group led up to the gunfire nearby.
"It's hard when you go to sleep at night, you got three babies looking for him; you don't have no answers. You don't know what to say." says Delorian Ross, his wife.
"I'm asking anyone that has any information to call Crime Stoppers. If you don't do it for me - do it for his children and his wife and his other family just to bring us closure,"says Delona Rushing, Ross' sister-in-law.
"Whoever you are or anybody that knows anything please come forward and speak up and let us know." says Yolanda Rushing, the victim's mother-in-law.
"It was a life changing thing. It was something hard to go through. What was done to my uncle, he didn't deserve it." D'Juan says.
Ross was a husband, a father, a brother, and a man loved by so many - and investigators say they know for sure he was not the intended target.
If you have information that can help Detroit Police capture Paul Ross' killer, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You will remain anonymous. A $2,500 reward is also being offered for information that lealds to an arrest.
