Although not a surprise, sad news for us as Arizona Senator and 2008 Presidential candidate John McCain has passed away at age 81 from brain cancer.
I might not have always agreed with Senator McCain when it came to politics, but he was an American hero who served our country both in war and in his later life.
And when it came to politics, McCain also became known as a maverick who wouldn't always tow the party line and would stick to his beliefs, which is unusual for a politician of either party.
Also, during a time of unfortunately imo a backwards trend in this country of us becoming more divided after years of progress, it was McCain who thankfully spoke up when running against Senator Obama in 2008 when someone at a town hall said the future President was an "Arab" (not that there's anything wrong with being an Arab, but the intent was the woman implying Obama was a terrorist).
John McCain was an American hero and may he rest in peace.

You know as much as i disagreed with him, and didn’t like much of the things he did when he was towing the party line, however that “Obama is an Arab” moment was where I had some respect for McCain and I’m glad that was his response, because if it was the Tiny Handed prick, President 45, it would have been a bunch of ridiculous, stupid, bigoted nonsense garbage. So in a way, I feel like his passing is sad since we lost someone who served our country and someone who was one of the few sane ones in a party full of morons.

McCain also gave what may have been the greatest concession speech in U.S. history the night he lost to Obama.
Yes there were times when McCain would tow the party line, but he did have a history of rebellion also, including voting against repealing the affordable care act (which is flawed but needs to be fixed rather than eliminated), which was basically the last thing he did before going back to his home state to live out the rest of his life.
There were times I was disappointed in him, but his final act in the Senate I will always appreciate.
Not all Republicans are bad people, and quite frankly, while I am social liberal, I am a tad more on the conservative side when it comes to more fiscal issues. The problem is the party has been infiltrated with tea party nut jobs instead of traditionalists.
There unfortunately won't be more like McCain, but hopefully we can learn some lessons from his life.
