HeadMarshal has brought this up more than me but there seems to be an issue in that many large cities or areas do not have an extensive most wanted listing and/or at least a general county crime stoppers most wanted listing. There are plenty of Crime Stoppers listings for general areas- but even in those cases they're often fugitives wanred for relatively minor crimes in the grand scheme of things.
While NYC for example is considered technically the safest big city in America for example, so perhaps it's understandable why they don't have a comprehensive wanted list. But still, crimes do happen in NYC even if not as bad in the past and I'm sure in a city so big they could finagle a top fugitive listing of men/women wanted for serious crimes such as murder, child molestation, etc...
IMO, I think the most glaring example of a surprising lack of online fugitive coverage in metropolitan areas is Chicago/Cook County. And yeah, don't get me wrong- I hate when Chicago is used as a political pawn in conversations about gun control, violence etc... I've been to Chicago and it's one of my favorite cities. But the fact of the matter is a lot of violent crimes do happen there and I find it shocking there's not a "Chicago's Most Wanted" website. I'm pretty sure there must be at least ten fugitives wanred for murder in the past decade they could put on a site.
In fairness, some cities do have representation through other types of programs. I'm not going to complain about the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland etc..) for example, since their major cases go on the overall Northern California Most Wanted website.
Also, don't want this thread to be entirely negative and want to say kudos to the cities that I feel do an overall good job such as Houston, Philly, San Diego etc...
Still with that being said, I figured we'd make a listing of populated areas where we're unsatisfied with online fugitive coverage, and who knows maybe we'll actually inspire some change!:
My opinion of needs better fugitive rep:
Los Angeles (has a most wanted website, but extremely outdated)
NYC
Chicago
Dallas
Washington D.C.
Boston
Miami (has a most wanted site, but mainly for sex offenders, needs overall crime most wanted listing)
Detroit (Detroit's Most Wanted on local ABC does great job, but overall website needed)
Denver
Baltimore
Will add more later, mostly based on our opinions, but feel that is a good start.
