Pasadena police have identified a suspect in Sunday's murder of a 83-year-old man as 23-year-old Silvano Dejesus Echavarria, 23.
Echavarria is accused of beating Pedro Munive to death Aug. 5 at The Pointe apartment complex at 4201 Shaver, the Pasadena Police Department said.
At about 6:48 a.m Sunday, patrol officers found Munive dead, with head injuries, lying near a vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
Apartment resident Maria Lopez remembers seeing Munive in the mornings, taking the trash out and drinking his morning coffee.
"When I heard he had passed away I was like 'How?' I couldn't believe it. He always seemed really nice and would say good morning to you. It's sad."
Munive's body was found a few feet away from Clarissa Limonez's front door. Two days after the homicide, she could still see blood stains where he was found.
"I've never seen anything like this," Limonez, a mother of two small children, said of the circumstances of Munive's death.
'I feel like they should have washed away the blood better. Every time we step outside I can still see it."
Sara Matue was acquainted with the victim and his daughter, who she said would come in the mornings and feed his pets and then leave. She remembers Munive as a calm and amiable presence in the apartment complex.
'The family is in pain,' she said. "He didn't seem have any enemies, he was a good person and this is just terrible."
Echavarria already had an active warrant for his arrest in Harris County, issued on March 21, court records show. He had received deferred adjudication on a felony aggravated assault charge from 2012, and allegedly violated his probation by failing a February drug test.
In that case, Echavarria pleaded guilty to stabbing another man with a knife.

Thoughts? I am posting this case per request but a murder this tragic and brutal deserves to be breaking news regardless. There is no known motive that I can find in any articles, but I can't think of any motive that would justify allegedly beating a senior citizen to death.
Some important additional clues are that Echavarria. is also known as Jesus Rodriguez and Chuy Rodriguez. He has a skull tattoo with a hood on his upper left arm. On the same arm, he also has a skeleton tattoo going from his fingers to his elbow.
Also, based on local news articles and press coverage I can state that Echavarria is unfortunately still at large as of this posting date. (8/10/2018).
