Oh wow. I didn't mention it since I didn't know but I'm very disappointed to hear this news. Crime Watch Daily wasn't perfect but it did profile some unsloved crime atories on broadcast television (which even people who don't have cable can get).
And while my main concern is fugitive cases since I feel they don't get as much attention as other types of unsolved crime stories in the media/online, CWD filled a void for missing and unsolved with no suspect cases that AMW left. (The Hunt needs to be more focused on fugitives with only 1-2 cases an episode but AMW while being primarily a fugitive show also did other cases that needed attention as well).
Very disappointed, not entirely surprised to be honest since this was daytime TV and they never seemed to do that great in the ratings, but still a shame. Wasn't perfect, and I had my complaints but it somewhat filled a void that I hope is finally replaced by an AMW-type show (or the unlikely event of AMW itself coming bac.

Seriously, with this and the question hanging on "The Hunt"'s head, I've pretty much given up on the true crime genre on tv. TV in general doesn't appeal to me these days anyway and I have the internet. If you want your true crime fix, might I suggest YouTube channels like Criminally Listed, Buzzfeed Unsolved Network, Cayleigh Elise, Danelle Hallan and various true crime documentary channels on YouTube plus the countless true crime podcasts.

I'm thinking of an elephant in the room: "Why didn't the news networks grade America's Most Wanted by its rate of fugitive captures, case solutions, missing people and children recoveries, and effects on communities who utilized it, as opposed to treating it like any other TV genre and grading it based on ratings that look more like arcade game scores?

There's no question hanging over The Hunt's head, it's been replaced by "In Pursuit with John Walsh" on the ID channel, which besides having to wait until next year, is actually good news imo because ID is a more popular channel than HLN. Technically speaking, true crime is more popular than ever, basically because of the new different media platforms such as Netflix, YouTube shows, podcasts etc... The ID channel is still wildly popular and Oxygen is making a run at true crime now as well. A&E still has The First 48. But that's true crime has exploded in popularity basically in the sense of crimes that have already happened or if it is an unsolved case it's a series focused on one specific unsolved case such as the GSK. (when it was unsolved) or "Making A Murderer" on Netflix. For whatever reason though, an AMW-esque show still hasn't been able to return to the landscape despite a renewed interest by the general public in true crime. Crime Watch Daily was sort of similar and I was trying to be nice to them since they were cancelled but they were a syndicated daytime tv show and that type of thing is hard to catch on, while they wasted a large portion of last season with ridiculous "was it a suicide/accident or murder?" cases that most police departments had determined were not homicides instead of actual homicide cases that could actually be solved. (The intrigue over controversy perhaps will get you a ratings bump, but most of the time those cases are what they seem to be and while not blaming them, it's often hard for family to accept a death as not something of their loved one's doing) Not to mention, they did that whole "knocking on person of interest" door's thing, which is great for tv drama, but with some rare exceptions, usually didn't go anywhere. (They'd get so indignant about it too, "well this guy doesn't want to talk"- yeah well regardless of how guilty or not guilty he is- you're unexpectedly at his house like a Jehova's Witness!) The irony of CWD being cancelled is I felt they were finally starting to get it and were improving with better case selection towards the end, but I'm not sure we can judge the fate of true crime tv based on them alone. My frustration is they keep reviving every sitcom back from the dead (Full House, Roseanne (before her tweets ruined it) etc... yet they can't revive AMW or Unsolved Mysteries. I think AMW could make a comeback in a big way if anyone ever bothered to bring it back but we'll see.

If AMW ever does make a return, it would have to be on YouTube since almost everyone is on the internet now and since YouTube’s platform gives it the ability to be streamed live. Put it that a crime show is needed on television for people without internet or people who prefer television, but it also has to do with the tides turning in terms of where people get their news. To be honest, the last time I saw T.V. Was November 2017 which was The Hunt’s series finale.

I think TV is still a powerful medium but they'd also have to make sure it can be seen on free TV or free internet like YouTube etc...
