My belief? I think he’s alive and somewhere in Mexico/Central America. He is likely in a warm-weather climate due to his back. One of the original detectives assigned to the case, John Kirkham (who had passed away) believed Robert fled to Mexico. When AMW profiled him at some point in 2006-07, John Walsh indicated some of the best tips were coming from Mexico.

I've said in the past Fisher is the one guy on the list where I can't make up my mind and one day I think he's dead and the next day I think he's alive etc...
I currently feel he's alive and living under an alias with a new girlfriend/wife and family and possibly still even in the U.S. I guess it's that "John List" feeling.
As a matter of fact, for all the talk about nature and him being a survivalist, I feel he could actually be in a large U.S. city such as NYC, L.A. etc... Lots of times when a guy is not caught for a long time it is because the way he is hiding is the opposite of what we expected.
But it's more like I'm 60-40 on him being alive as opposed to a larger percentage.

Here’s my recurring problem: if he wanted to commit suicide, why didn’t he do it at the house? Plus, two people saw someone they suspected to be Robert hiking out of Tonto. The Grand Isle, LA tips AMW received in 2003 were strong enough to the point where FBI Agent Robert Caldwell has referenced them in several interviews.

I guess it's possible he originally planned a run but finally had guilt/remorse and that's when he offed himself.
I guess the problem is for argument's sake, if he really did kill himself, the most likely place is the Tonto National Forest, and that Tonto National Forest is so vast with so many caves and cubby holes (from what I've read) that they may never find his body. (And still haven't if he did kill himself there).
It does seem sadly that possibly the only way this case will ever be solved is if he's still alive. (Which is great that he can still be brought to justice but sucks in it would mean he's currently still out there sense).

I'm really torn. Part of me feels like he was too arrogant to kill himself, but he had made some suicidal remarks before the attacks, so as prideful as he is, he must know his own weaknesses deep down, hence the possibility that he has indeed killed himself.
There's been some sightings, but plenty of false sightings too. Fisher unfortunately doesn't look very unique, so I could easily believe that he is hiding in plain sight somewhere, but it could mean all those sightings are false too.
I think his main guilt was putting his children through a divorce. Since he "spared them" of going through that, I really think he could be alive and guilt-free out there, somewhere.

Not that I am accusing you of dishonesty, but what were the suicidal remarks? I haven't heard that before.

I didn't know it wasn't super well known (I'll use some better resorces next time It could have been misinterpreted, or an offhand remark if true
