NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - Cases grow cold for a variety of reasons, like missing evidence or lack of cooperation. But the investigation into one Nashville murder case has stalled partly because of where the crime happened.
"I was screwed up, my heart was broken," Lisa Keeton said.
Keeton lost her brother James Perry, last September. She was his big sister, and affectionately called him "Pac-Man." She said the day of his murder is still so vivid.
She said she woke up to a phone call about her brother.
"At 5 a.m. my phone rung; it was a family member, and my heart just dropped," she recalled.
Perry was shot and killed after coming out of a home on 12th Avenue North, between Buchanan and Clay streets the morning of September 23, 2017. His murderer was waiting for him.
Metro police detective, Lindsay Smith told News 2 she's always thinking about the investigation.
"It's always there," she said.
According to Smith, Perry was shot several times, and he was targeted.
"There was no kind of robbery," she explained. "This was a very deliberate and brutal act."
The detective also said there's a fear in the neighborhood and people are afraid to talk about the attack.
If they do, the threat of retaliation looms large. But Smith still believes just one witness could solve the case.
"I want someone to look into their conscience and say, 'This just as easily could have happened to someone in my family,'" Smith said.
Holding his picture after meeting with detectives at a police precinct, it's been nearly 10 months for Keeton without her brother. She said she's tried to come to terms with the loss but wants the killer caught.
"Whoever done it, he's going to have to answer, if he doesn't answer to justice, he going to answer to God," Keeton said.
Keeton has turned to prayer to see her through her pain. And they've been answered. Her plea to the public has not, so she said she'll keep trying.
"Do the right thing, something has got to stop," Keeton said. "It's too much going on, too many killings, somebody has to start speaking up."
If you have any information on Perry's murder, please call detective Lindsay Smith at 615-862-7889 or Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
