From Joliet Patch:
JOLIET, IL - In recent times, the Joliet Police Department, under the leadership of Police Chief Brian Benton, has struggled to solve violent murder cases and bring the culprit to justice. One year ago this week marks another reminder to the community of an unsolved murder during Benton's tenure as chief. Anton Mable, a 25-year-old man from Chicago, was gunned down inside the parking lot at the McDonald's on Jefferson Street.
Mable's killing appeared cold, calculated and premeditated. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds at 12:52 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Mable had been sitting inside a parked car, a 2013 Chrysler, at the McDonald's. It was his friend's car, Joliet Police officials said at the time.
After the car was sprayed with bullets, the friend drove the shooting victim to the nearby St. Joe's hospital, but Mable did not make it. He was pronounced dead at 1:17 a.m.
Joliet Police have said that the killer immediately fled, running northbound on Woodlawn Avenue, which is near St. Paul's Catholic church.
Last month, with Mable's killer still on the loose, Joliet Police officials turned to the Will County Crime Stoppers. "Joliet Police Department is seeking help in the murder of Anton Mable," the headline reads.
A brief summary of Mable's death was posted on the Will County Crime Stoppers website on June 11.
"On July 12th, 2017 Anton Mable, 25, of Chicago, IL was in a friend’s vehicle outside of a McDonald’s on West Jefferson Street in Joliet when he was shot and killed. The Joliet Police Department is asking for the community’s help."
Crime Stoppers is willing to pay out up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Tips can be submitted anonymously and people can submit their tip by texting "willcocs" and tip to 274637.
"Submit a tip and you can earn up to $5,000," Crime Stoppers notes.
Although most people may not remember, just six hours before Mable was gunned down, the Joliet Police were busy several block away, investigating a drive-by shooting along Raynor Avenue.
Around 6:45 p.m., a 38-year-old man was driving a silver Honda Accord southbound on Raynor near John Street when his passenger's side windshield broke. According to police, the shooter may have been driving a small black car, northbound on Raynor, when he leaned out his window and fired three or four gunshots at the silver Honda Accord.
Joliet Police described the drive-by shooter as a black man. He had a shaved head, muscular build and wore a white T-shirt.
