(Above photo credit: Vermont State Police website) From the Vermont State Police website- Unsolved Homicides section: Vermont State Police - Major Crime Unit Case number 05B104568 On 12/31/57 Orville Gibson left his residence to do his daily chores at his barn at approximately 0300 hours. Investigation revealed Mr. Gibson never arrived at his barn. During the investigation evidence of a struggle was identified on his property. Evidence was also identified on the road side near Newbury Crossing that was connected back to Mr. Gibson’s property. Newbury Crossing is the local name for the bridge over the CT River from Newbury, VT to Haverhill, NH. Mr. Gibson was eventually discovered in the Connecticut River, deceased. Mr. Gibson’s cause of death was determined to be by drowning, the manner in which this occurred is believed to be a homicide. vsp.vermont.gov/unsolved/homicide/gibsonThoughts? Normally I wouldn't add a case this old to our site but from what I found online this is one of the more intriguing "murder" mysteries in Vermont state history. I only put murder in quotations since some feel Orville Gibson actually com.itted suicide.
