COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell gave an update on the investigation into a “planned escape” from the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center on May 19.
The manhunt continues for escapee Curtis Green, 20. Green was in jail for capital murder.
Escapees Tyshon Johnson and Christopher Boltin have now been arrested.
Johnson, who had been in jail for capital murder was captured by U.S. Marshals Tuesday afternoon in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
On Sunday, Christopher Boltin was recaptured in Lexington County; his father Hoyte Boltin is charged with assisting his son.
Boltin was in jail for carjacking.
These individuals were named by Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell at Wednesday’s press conference and have been charged in connection to the incident:
Otis Daquan Goodwine, Roosevelt Emanuel Johnson, III and Tykeil Daeqwan Huggins are accused of assaulting the detention center officer in what Sheriff Ravenell described as a planned attack.
Reportedly, an electrical shortage opened cell doors in one section of the correction facility.
According to the arrest warrants jail surveillance video shows the trio assaulting the officer and using his pepper spray causing the officer to be impaired.
Goodwine and Johnson are accused of helping Tyshon Johnson and Curtis Green escape.
Goodwine is charged with first degree assault and battery, two counts of escape and aiding escapes from prison, for prisoners charged with capital offenses.
Johnson is charged with two counts escape and aiding escapes from prison, for prisoners charged with capital offenses. He allegedly distracted the officer and placed objects in the jail doors so they would malfunction.
Ravenell said Huggins tried to escape but got caught in the jails barbed wire. He’s charged with escape.
Dekwon Hillard was charged with helping the escapees.
The men will appear in bond court at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
