From khou.com:
The 1995 murder of Liberty County Sheriff's Deputy Wilburn Agy remains unsolved, and Houston Police are hoping someone in the community will come forward with new information.
"Great man, had the biggest heart ever, tough as nails," said Ali Agy-Bechtel, his daughter.
Agy, a father and husband, always wanted to be a police officer.
"He enjoyed it, but the smaller towns, they don't make as much money so he had to work an extra job," she said.
He was working an extra job on the night of April 5, 1995.
"What is weird at 11:05 p.m. exactly, I either heard or had a dream of a car back firing, a big white flash and it turns out that's the time my dad was killed," Agy-Bechtel said.
In the crime scene video, you can see the store off Fondren in southwest Houston. Agy was inside talking to the clerk with his back to the door when the robbers barged in killing him and stealing his gun.
"This particular suspect grabbed the officer, pushed him to the floor and shot him one time," Sgt. Tom Ladd told reporters on the scene back in 1995.
It was Agy's friend and fellow officer, Liberty Police Sgt. Frank Longoria, who got him the extra job.
"He started in '92, and he was killed in '95," Longoria said.
The night he died, he rushed to his friend.
"Doing some good for his community, he actually liked putting bad guys in jail but he also liked helping people," said Longoria, describing what Agy loved about his job.
Houston Police Cold Case Detective Paul Vela walked us through the crime scene. It's surrounded by one of the city's worst neighborhoods for gangs. Investigators exhausted all their leads, but a year after the murder came a big break.
"The gun was recovered approximately a year later, and the gun was taken from a suspect in a burglary of a motor vehicle," Vela said.
However, police determined the man arrested wasn't the suspect in Agy's murder.
So, who is? Police have a sketch, but no name, nothing concrete, frustrating detectives.
"He's a brother. It hits us right in the heart," Vela said. "We have jobs, we have extra jobs just like him, and we know how dangerous it is."
"When I ask officers that were involved in the case a long time ago, they said it was such a clueless case for having so many witnesses," Agy-Bechtel said.
But instead of focusing on the past, this daughter is paying it forward.
"I always wanted to adopt kids, because I always knew the need was big, and when this happened, I knew I wanted to adopt kids from neighborhoods that were tough," she said.
Agy's daughter is raising five boys, three adopted.
"This is Dayne, we call him DJ, and he wants to be a police officer," she said.
While most people in her shoes might shy away from their sons becoming a police officer, this mother says she's proud.
"You know, I've actually been asked that, and there's a lot of police officers here that have a healthy career that never have to pull there gun out, never have a gun pulled on them."
It just so happens her dad did.
Agy had 18 years of experience in law enforcement. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
