On yesterday's episode of the syndicated crime series "Crime Watch Daily", the show profiled the still unsolved 2017 murder of Egypt Covington, a 27 year-old bartender who was found shot to death in her home in Van Buren Township, Michigan.
Her boyfriend, Curtis Meadows, who was only a few days from moving in with her, found her body after texting her and getting no response. She had been tied up with Christmas lights and shot once in the back of the head. There was no sign of forced entry and the only witness was Egypt's dog, Ruby. Egypt's neighbors were out of town, indicating that whoever killed her knew her schedule and that they wouldn't be present.
A clearly emotional Meadows interviewed with Crime Watch Daily. While he was naturally looked at being the current boyfriend, he was quickly ruled out as a suspect.
However, in 2018, Van Buren Township would officially name a person of interest- Egypt's ex-boyfriend, Kenny Michalak. Friends and family interviewed on the show describe Michalak as being verbally and physically abusive towards her. Egypt's stepmother believes Michalak may have learned that Meadows was planning on moving in with Egypt and did not take kindly to the news.
Interestingly, one person in Kenny's corner is Egypt's own birth mother, who feels her daughter only mentioned verbal arguments and would tell her if there were physical ones as well. Her mother on the show would do go on to the state that she doesn't want to ruin someone's life without proof and that Egypt's job being a bartender could have lead to her murder. (Being that she worked in a field that anyone could have followed her home.
Crime Watch Daily attempted to interview Michalak at his house, but besides denying physical abuse, stated that he wouldn't mind answering questions but they would have to go through his lawyer.
Michalak's lawyer would respond to Crime Watch Daily's inquiry and state that Michalak has been fully cooperative with authorities and has also stayed in town the entire 10 months of the investigation into Egypt's murder. He also states he has reached out to Van Buren Township police on dozens of occasions to ask if they needed anything, and that Michalak fully maintains his innocence.

Thoughts?
My opinion is I do not subscribe to a random attacker theory. The fact that there was one bullet to the head, and the way Egypt was found indicates to me it is someone who knew her and wanted to make sure she was dead. It also seems imo more than coincidence that the neighbors were away.
As for Kenny Michalak, I can't fault him for hiring an attorney. It is what anyone who is named a person of interest in a murder investigation should do. It doesn't mean he is or isn't guilty however.
If Michalak is responsible, then I hope enough evidence can be gathered to eventually charge him with Egypt's murder. Although I do stress legally speaking he is only a person of interest and even if ever charged is innocent until proven guilty.
If it is someone else, I hope they are found and any other persons of interests (public or private are finally cleared).
Really sad case as Egypt seemed to not only have friends and family but likely many customers at her job that clearly loved her as well.
