MACON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Macon County Sheriff’s Office has released the name and photo of a man wanted for questioning in relation to a double homicide.
Macon County officials posted a photo of Maximino Rios-Diaz, 46, on social media Tuesday morning, and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities say Rios-Diaz was last seen by his family on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Authorities believe he may be traveling in an unknown vehicle to Mexico.
Sheriff Robert Holland said they believe Francisco and Diego Altamirano were shot at Rios-Diaz's home at the intersection of Hayes Mill Road and Clarks Chapel Road.
"The last time that he was seen here was the night of the event, which was a week ago Saturday. He's not been seen since, and we have reason to believe that he had fled to the Atlanta area, enroute to Mexico," Sheriff Holland said.
Last week, a deputy discovered the bodies of the two brothers in the back of their Chevrolet Silverado truck on Jack Cabe Road.
To build trust in the Hispanic community, Holland posted a letter on the sheriff's office Facebook page, assuring them he's not interested in their legal status, but simply appealing for their help in solving the crime. The post has been shared more than 500 times.
The sheriff said reaching out to the Hispanic community on social media helped in getting information about Rios-Diaz.
At this point, Sheriff Holland said there are no active warrants for Rios-Diaz, but said charges could be filed soon.
There is no word yet on what might have been the motive in this shooting.

Thoughts? I feel it's important to get some more national publicity on Maximinio Rios-Diaz before he succeeds in presumably fleeing to Mexico. Reason being is that I doubt Mexico is going to extradite him since he's only wanted to questioning, which means getting more information on the two murders will be really difficult.
