8 year-old Ann Marie Burr has been missing from her Washington home for over 50 years. I'm almost 100% positive she was never profiled on AMW.
In 1961, Ann Marie's mother entered her room one early morning and discovered her daughter missing. She found that a window in the living that had been cracked open slightly was now almost completely open, and the front door, which was kept locked, had been unlocked and open from the inside. Police found a small footprint, consistent with a small man or teenager, outside the open window, and neighbors reported seeing someone, days prior to the disappearance, peering through the Burr's windows, but couldn't identify the person.
The case was treated as an abduction from the beginning, and police interviewed and cleared several sex offenders from the area. Two teens were questioned in the case. One sent a ransom note, but turned out to be just an opportunist and cleared. The other failed one of two polygraphs and was never fully ruled out.
The case went cold until the serial killer Ted Bundy came to light. It was revealed that Bundy lived only a few blocks from the Burr's at the time of her abduction; and although accounts vary, it appears they knew each other. He was only 14 at the time and was never questioned until his other murders came to light. Some people, however, believe Ann Marie may have been his first victim.
I'm not sure where I fall in with the Bundy theory. Bundy confessed to several murders prior to his execution, including cases where the body has never been recovered, and he adamantly denied any involvement with Ann Marie's abduction. There was even one case where he denied involvement in a murder, despite police saying he did it just because he may have been in the area at the time, and it turned out the woman was murdered by someone else. However, one investigator claimed Bundy stated there were murders he would never confess to because the victims were too young, or too close to home. Ann Marie fits both.
