Thought it would be interesting to note today is the one-year anniversary of when the old AMW.com forums crashed. Obviously a lot of us have great and not-so-great memories of it. I myself remember when it started out mainly as a board to discuss the then unknown BTK serial killer and evolved into a general forum. In retrospect the board seemed limited in what it could do and activity seemed to decrease towards the end but in its heyday it was lively and active with multiple members posting most wanted lists, fugitive contests etc... I also want to point out that this is one case where I don't believe in a conspiracy theory despite it crashing around the same time Fox and Lifetime were rumored to be in a fight over license fees. The board was years old and when it crashed I assume the system overloaded. It just so unfortunately seemed to come at a bad time where if it didn't crash perhaps more attention would have been drawn to AMW's contract limbo. I created this forum thinking it would be just a stopgag until amw.com's came back. Little did I know. What do you remember most about AMW.com's forums? Good and bad?

I admit, I remember me acting somewhat like a jerk in early-mid 2009 when I first joined. I have matured a lot now. I'm just glad that we can have individual case threads on this forum. It wouldn't have worked on the fox forums format due to how it was set up. A lot of people left in 2009 due to how the forum was involved in more fugitive discussion then missing person/unsolved crime discussion, although I remember the comment from one member saying that he/she was annoyed that discussions had became stuff like "who's the number one fugitive". That of course wasn't 100 percent accurate.

Thankfully I was mainly a lurker and don't really remember that. But I remember another message board I used to post on where I was relieved when it crashed and had to re-start since I had gotten into fights there LOL. I remember learning a lot of AMW news from the forum, wondering how do these guys find out captures before even AMW. Then eventually my brain went "google news, duh"

Early on there used to be a really active community of who I believe were older fans, probably in their 40s-50s. I don't know this for certain, but it was something about they way they talked. They started leaving the forum as us "younger people" began to join. I seem to recall one post from towards the end of the forum's life where an old poster returned and said the initially crowd had pretty much left. The poster never directly said it, but they implied that they didn't like the younger generation.
I do miss guys like CatchumAll, who had apparently been watching the show since 1988. He knew everything about old fugitive cases; it was through him I knew who Joe Sinnott Edwards was.
I also remember the forums started out as BTK-exclusive, but became expansive sometime in mid-2005 (I think). I also remember when the Wedding Dress Attacker was first profiled, Evan Marshall (AMW producer) joined the forum and participated in a live chat with posters.

Being reminded mid-2005 makes me realize I was browsing that forum A LOT longer than I realized lol. I think I had one screen name and then after the initial forum crashed, I used "getthebadguy" before eventually fishemout. Honestly, never really a fan of any of my screen names, although I like Scumhunter. I also remember there were a TON of mods in the beginning but towards the end when it started to become ridiculous, there didn't seem to be as many, at least logging in. I believe I remember Catchumall. Wasn't he also the guy that capitalized subject titles and/or certain titles in his posts? I enjoyed that. LOL.
