"Joey Bochicchio-Hauser almost made it to her eighth birthday. But five days prior, during a trip to Boca Raton's Town Center mall on Dec. 12, 2007, mall security found her and her mother, Nancy Bochicchio, 47, just before midnight, dead in the Sears parking lot in a still-idling Chrysler Aspen SUV. Their killer remains on the loose. Six years to the day later, it's still tough for Nancy Bochicchio's sister, JoAnn Bruno, to talk about her sister and niece without crying. In a phone call Wednesday, she described how it seems as if the case is slipping away and getting colder each year. "It's getting worse," Bruno said. "I want him caught." Bruno hasn't heard any new leads from detectives, and a $350,000 reward from the city of Boca Raton remains unclaimed. Police said the Bochicchios were carjacked during the trip to Town Center. Nancy Bochicchio was forced to withdraw $500 from an ATM before the Bochicchios were shot. Police at the time described the suspect as a white or hispanic male between 18 and 25, between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet tall with a medium build and a pony tail. Boca Raton Police spokesman Mark Economou said detectives are still adding new leads to a database, as well as taking a second look at old leads, along with FBI laboratory reports. "Members of the Boca Raton Police Services Department remain committed to achieving justice for Nancy and Joey," said Economou. "Their family members are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of year." As authorities sift through nearly 2,000 tips, Economou said leads continue to develop. The murders at the mall in Boca Raton gained national attention after being featured on shows, including "America's Most Wanted" and "Dateline." But the lack of solid leads in the case has taken a toll. The Boca Raton Police and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office joint task force created to solve the crime disbanded in 2009. The murder sparked an increase in security at the mall, with changes that included off-duty Boca Raton police officers patrolling parking lots in January 2008, additional surveillance cameras a month later, and a Boca Raton Police substation in October 2008. Aside from the Bochicchio murders, on March 23, 2007, someone killed Randi Gorenberg, 52, of Boca Raton, after she left the Town Center mall. Sheriff's Office investigators said she was shot and dumped at a park in West Delray Beach. Her murder also remains unsolved. Bruno wants to make sure tragedies like these don't happen again. She urges shoppers, and the public as a whole, to be aware of their surroundings. "Don't put your guard down," Bruno told the Sun Sentinel last year. "People seem to have forgotten. ... There are crimes all the time, everywhere." Police ask anyone with information on the Bochicchio murders to call Detective Mynor Cruz at 561-338-1320 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 800-458-8477."Thoughts? I remember on AMW there was another case where a man believed to be the same suspect let the woman go, but the Randi Gorenberg case also had the same deadly ending. AMW cold case fugitive Michael Barrera is said to be a suspect in the Gorenberg case. The people who run the Nancy & Joey Bocchicio memorial website want Barrera questioned in this case as well. As forum member Derek posted in the Barrera thread, under "Facts About The Case", one of Nancy's friends called her cellphone one day after the murder and a man answered in spanish. Future calls went to voicemail. Also under "similar cases", a pregnant store clerk was robbed and bound with zip ties in 2007 at her Miami-metro area business by two Hispanic males. Although the descriptions don't seem to match Barrera, in Derek and my's opinion it's possible there could be some sort of connection. Might there be a connection here? I previously felt the Gorenberg case was a bit different from the other two abductions in that she seemed to be randomly shot as opposed to abducted but she did leave from the same mall and now I'm not so sure. Maybe she was followed and was trying to get away? This is such a sad case and I'm very frustrated that it hasn't been solved yet. www.sun-sentinel.com/news/palm-beach/boca-raton/fl-boca-mall-murder-sixth-anniversary-20131211,0,3683326.story www.bochicchiomemorial.com/ UPDATE: As of October 26th, 2022, anyone with information on this Nancy and Joey's case can also call or text "In Pursuit" on the Investigation Discovery channel at 833-378-7783 and/or submit a tip at the show's website: www.InPursuitTips.comAdmin Note: If you have any news-related updated information on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Not to make this a race debate or anything but I feel that AMW tried to be too "politically correct" when making the case reenactment at the expense of more tips. The suspect in this case is either white or hispanic, although some of the information points to the killer being hispanic (ex. the victim's cellphone having a man answer it in spanish and hispanic robbers in the area using a similar MO.) The AMW.com profile mentions the suspect as being white. The reenactment showed a man who appeared to white as the actor portraying the killer and dropping the victim's cellphone in an area with a large african-american population. It also showed the killer telling the woman who survived to tell authorities that he's "short, fat and black."
Why this is even an issue, is that potential tipsters with possible information may not have called the AMW hotline because the killer was portrayed as being white in the reenactment. It appears that the producers tried to be too "politically correct" by portraying a white killer trying to pin the murders on a black person. If a tipster thought a person they knew that was hispanic may have been involved, they may have been discouraged from calling in with their information.
And what I want to know is why AMW didn't re-air this case when they re-aired the Randi Gorenberg murder, considering that the two cases could likely still be connected?

All great points especially considering this case was from the Fox days. (I LOVED the Lifetime season but I do agree with you some cases were lifetimeized)
It is very possible the perpetrator was Hispanic based on this new (or old and untold) evidence. AMW, as much as I love/d them, should have mentioned this and along with the Gorenberg case.
Let's face it, Barrera is in my opinion one of the scariest fugitives in AMW history and I don't blame anyone for being too afraid to call in his whereabouts. Perhaps the killing of a seven year-old girl could have motivated someone to overcome their fear and call in the tip line if he had anything, anything at all to do with Nancy and Joey's deaths.

Of course I'm happy that they're investigating other people in connection with these murders and making sure that no good lead doesn't get looked at.

Something I always remember about the Bochicchio case is that the reenactment was actually shot twice. They did one reenactment for the January 2008 airing (the case's second profile) and a different, more in-depth one for the full-show profile. I remember this because the actor who played the killer returned for the second reenactment, an extreme rarity for AMW (the only other time I can think of that happening is with Robert Snyder after he was captured).
Like Scumhunter, I honestly don't believe the Bochicchio and Gorenberg murders are connected. I do, however, think the Bochicchio case and the kidnapping of the mother are connected. There's too many bizarre similarities to ignore in that one. The only connection the Bochicchio case has to the Gorenberg case is the Town Center Mall. There's also the fact that investigators, especially in the February 2008 airing (which dedicated the entire show to these cases) seemed skeptical about the connection themselves.

I realize perhaps I should ask this either in Michael Barrera's thread- or perhaps make a thread for Randi Gorenberg herself- but since these cases always seem to be discussed together whether they were actually connected or not- I wonder if the "informant" on Michel Barrera was ever looked into in either case?
I realize this is a stretch but what got me to thinking this was when I was watching an episode of The First 48 the other week. The case was the murder of a homeless man in Miami. An informant- hoping to get out of a charge he was going to jail for- came in giving the name of a possible suspect and then asked the detective if they found the murder weapon yet. I immediately became suspicious of the guy and thought he was the killer- surprised the detective didn't suspect him immediately afterwards either- not a criticism at all since eventually they realized it was him after interviewing his girlfriend to corroborate his story. That was great work right there to do that.
The same thing happened on another episode I watched the other day. An informant came in- discussed he knew who had the gun in a murder in a house in Cleveland- and then asked to get help with a charge. Once again I became convinced he had something to do with it and once again I was proven right.
So I know some times informants are legit- but there are many cases where they seem to "come forward" either to blame someone else, or because they are gutsy enough to see what the police have.
In my opinion, while it doesn't mean Michel Barrera isn't a dangerous fugitive, and he obviously could have something to do with the Gorenberg murder (or even the murders of Nancy and Joey). I can't help but wonder if the informant just threw the name out there, knowing his name is a high-publicity AMW-aired case, in the hopes to take any potential heat off him.
Just saying I think this informant should be investigated in both the murders of Randi Gorenberg and Nancy and Joey Bocchichio if he hasn't been already.
Thoughts?

Update: The killer or killers wanted for the 2007 slayings of a mother and her 7-year-old daughter outside the Boca Raton Town Center mall may have bought items used in the attack in Miami-Dade County. The FBI and the Boca Raton Police Department on Tuesday released new information in the killings of Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her daughter, Joey, 7 — considered one of the biggest unsolved homicide cases in Boca Raton history. On Dec. 12, 2007, Bochicchio and her daughter — at least one of them wearing blacked out swim goggles and both bound with plastic ties and duct tape — were found by security guards shot to death in their still-idling SUV in the parking lot of the Boca Raton Town Center mall. And detectives have reason to think the killer or killers bought the plastic ties and duct tape used to bind the two in their SUV at a "major retailer" in Miami-Dade, Boca Raton Police Chief Dan Alexander said Tuesday. Alexander didn't elaborate on which store the items were bought from or why they think the items came from a specific store, but said police have known this information since 2010. "We want to be careful about what we release," Alexander said. "But we feel like with this opportunity with the reward and this information centering on the Miami-Dade area, it was advantageous for us." The information was released at a news conference where the FBI announced it would be adding $50,000 to the reward for information resulting in the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the slayings. The total reward now stands at $400,000. FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael D'Alonzo said Tuesday both the FBI and Boca Raton police are doing all they can to keep this case fresh in the minds of South Floridians. He said by increasing the reward, the agency hopes to motivate someone with information about the crime to come forward. Investigators "are leaving no stone unturned and the FBI is supporting their investigation in any way we can," he said. "Someone saw or heard something that can assist investigators. Please come forward. You will be rewarded for your efforts." At the news conference, investigators reiterated that another piece of evidence also points to a Miami-Dade connection: Police found Nancy Bochicchio's credit card and cell phone in the 1500 block of Northeast Fourth Avenue in Miami a "short time" after the killings. Two homeless men found the purse belonging to Nancy Bochicchio, and used at least one of her credit cards. Police interviewed the men about week after the murders and cleared them of any wrongdoing. Police think the mother and daughter were snatched from the mall at gunpoint, and then driven to an ATM where Nancy Bochicchio took out $500 cash. They were then shot and killed. The murders gained national attention after being featured in shows such as "America's Most Wanted" and "Dateline." Peter Sosian, an attorney representing the Bochicchio's surviving family members, said they hope the increased interest and information will bring forth new leads in the case. The Bochicchio incident was the third in 2007 connected to the Town Center. Another woman, Randi Gorenberg, 52, was shot and killed after she left the mall on March 23, 2007, just a few months before the Bochicchio slayings. Her body was found at a park in Delray Beach. Gorenberg's murder also remains unsolved. Finally, a similar crime happened in August, when a man kidnapped and bound a woman and her 2-year-old son, forced the woman to take money from an ATM, and then left them alive in the parking lot also at the Town Center. The incidents sparked increased security details at the mall. Off-duty officers patrolled the parking lot in 2008, additional surveillance cameras were placed in the parking lot later that year and the department added a substation in October 2008. www.sun-sentinel.com/local/palm-beach/fl-boca-raton-town-center-murders-20150929-story.html

I mentioned this is in the thread on Randi Gorenberg's case but a new article seems to passive-aggressively point fingers at Randi's son, friends of Randi's son, and her husband as potential suspects. If there is anything more to this than it would further increase the likelihood that whoever killed Randi DID NOT kill Nancy and Joey. At the same time, it is also important to give everyone the presumption of evidence, especially those not currently charged with any wrongdoing. bronxjusticenews.com/bronx-justice-news-investigation-cold-boca-mall-murders-still-reverberating-in-nyc/

John mentioned in tonight's In Pursuit that the Boca Raton PD will not comment on the Bochicchio case because it's an ongoing investigation. Now I really want to go back and re-watch the original AMW profiles of the case because I can't remember if they interviewed anybody with the police department or not. I definitely remember Nancy's sister being interviewed, but now I'm really confused if this has always been their policy like John stated or if it's a new policy.
