Bethany Markowski has been missing for over a decade in Tennessee. She was aired on AMW twice in 2001. The woman depicted in the sketch above is sought for questioning in connection with this case, more info below.
11-year old Bethany and her father Larry were scheduled to meet Bethany's mother in Waverly, Tennessee on Mar 4, 2001. They had recently separated. On that day, Bethany and Larry traveled to a mall in Jackson, Tennesee where Larry said she went inside while he took a nap inside his vehicle for an hour. When he woke up, he went inside the mall to look for Bethany but couldn't locate her. Investigators said that Bethany was not on mall surveillance tapes on the day of her disappearance and there's no proof she actually went inside. Authorities have questioned Larry's version of events.
Oddly enough, Bethany was seen by several witnesses with an unidentified woman shortly after she disappeared. The woman who is shown in the sketch above was described as white, approximately 42 to 44 years of age, 5'4 to 5'5, 185 pounds, appeared unkempt and looked like she was suffering from a hangover. Even more odd, was that authorities said the woman tried to enroll Bethany in a Southeastern Tennessee school one month later. They may have then traveled to Moline, Illinois.
Thoughts? I have two points to make about this case. The first is why did Larry sleep for an hour while he let his 11-year old daughter go to a mall alone. The second is how could a woman who looked like how the witnesses describe, successfully abduct a young girl in a mall area. Did she have an accomplice? I find it hard to believe that someone who was apparently suffering from a hangover and was unkempt could have pulled this off alone.
