WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WJAR) —
Woonsocket police said the search for a person who fatally stabbed an elderly woman two years ago remains active.
Constance Gauthier, 81, was found stabbed to death multiple times inside her home on Fairfield Avenue on March 23, 2016. She lived there alone.
Her piano teacher, John Spencer, said she had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling around the world by herself.
“One thing that struck me about her -- she had this little gray sports car and her license plate said, ‘live,’ and I think it really encapsulated who she was,” Spencer said.
Music lessons haven't been the same since Gauthier's murder. Her friends are still waiting for answers and a sense of closure.
“I miss her because we used to talk on the phone and not anything special, maybe recipes or what she was trying to do in the kitchen,” said Carolyn Solsberg, who met Gauthier at piano lessons.
Woonsocket Police Detective Capt. Michael Lemoine told NBC 10 News the investigation has not gone cold.
“We have a team of detectives that are looking at this case,” Lemoine said, adding that just the day before detectives re-interviewed someone about the investigation.
“As that time lapses, people's relationships change or their memories, something may jog their memory or maybe guilt and they have something to get off their chest,” Lemoine said.
Police believe Gauthier knew the person who murdered her based on the evidence left at the scene. Her friends said they're motivated to seek justice for a woman who left a lasting impression on them.
“I feel like we’ve got to do right by her,” Spencer said.
