From Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crime Stoppers on Facebook:
Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit have charged a suspect in connection with a cold case rape investigation that occurred on November 20, 1990.
The investigation from November 20, 1990, revealed that the victim and her one-year-old child were at Mazarick Park when the suspect approached the victim and forced her to the back of the park. The suspect then raped the victim and stole her vehicle. Detectives investigated the case in 1990, but it went unsolved. Detectives have recently discovered that DNA from the 1990 crime scene has been linked to McGill.
Wilbur McGill, (B/M, 53 years of age), of the 2000 Block of Newark Avenue has been charged with 1st Degree Rape, 1st Degree Kidnapping, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny of Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
Detectives are encouraging family and friends of Wilbur McGill to have him to turn himself into law enforcement. Detectives also ask that anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of McGill to contact law enforcement or Crimestoppers immediately.
Anyone with information concerning a sexual assault case more than five years old is asked to contact Detective J. Benazzi with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 257-3668 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). McGill on Fayetteville P.D. website- most wanted section: p2c.faypd.com/mostwanted.aspx
Thoughts? I put 1990 as the wanted year since that is when McGill allegedly attacked the woman and her 1-year old child, however; it seems he was not charged until 2017 so this is in no means a cold case. (I am also assuming the photo is a more recent photo he looks a lot older than 26 in it).
McGill is still listed on the Fayetteville P.D. website as one of their most wanted fugitives at the moment so that gives me enough reason to assume that he is unfortunately still at large as of this posting date. (3/19/2018).
