On March 31, 2006, concerned family members went to the residence of Maritza Hernandez in Wheaton, Maryland when she failed to appear for work. Her body was found inside and the cause of death was asphyxiation. Maritza's brother found a note next to her body from the killer saying "I'm sorry I did this, but I had to do it". On April 2, authorities issued an arrest warrant for Maritza's boyfriend, Silvino Quintanilla as the alleged suspect.

Thoughts? I learned about this case through a 2008 Red Notice issued by Interpol (back when they were doing a ton of US red notices). According to the Maryland case information page, his case status is still showing as "Warrant" meaning that Silvino is still at large.
Also I find the note really arrogant, Silvino is allegedly apologizing for killing Maritza, but he's like he had to do it and then go on the run to not be held accountable.
