PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS 12) — A desperate search for a missing mother and her 8 year old son, missing for a week. Police say they can’t rule out foul play.
According to her mother, Georgia Brown seemed quote “very distressed, frightened” when she left her mother’s home here last Friday, at about midnight with her 8 year old boy.
She hasn’t been seen since.
“I just hope that they’re okay and hope that they appear,” said Tonya Clayton, neighbor of Georgia Brown’s mother.
Neighbors are puzzled about the disappearance of Georgia Brown, 48, and her son Karam Govens, Jr., 8.
They were last seen at Georgia’s mother’s home in Port St. Lucie.
Police say Brown lives in Parkland in Broward County, but went to stay with her mother due to marital problems.
Her mother, who would not comment on camera, says Georgia seemed frantic, frightened, and in a hurry after receiving a phone call Thursday night.
She and her son haven’t been seen or heard from, since.
“It’s scary. especially with all the things you see in the news about, you know, even going to the grocery store is not safe anymore. You’ve got human trafficking, all kinds of scary things going on out there,” Clayton said.
Her mother reported Georgia missing Monday. Police say she may be driving a silver 2003 Toyota Camry.
“She hasn’t contacted me. So there’s something really, really wrong. Why wouldn’t she call me and say I’m okay?” said Marjorie Brown, Georgia’s mother.
Police say they have no evidence she was kidnapped or taken against her will, but they cannot rule out foul play.
“I’m really surprised,” said Theodora Williams, Marjorie Brown’s neighbor.
Her mother says when she tries to call Georgia, the calls don’t go through. She says Georgia’s cell phone is turned off. She says Georgia is a social worker, and a graduate of Hofstra University.
