After an angry argument at her new lover's workplace, she allegedly got out of her car and shot him dead. David is from Ethiopia and is said to speak English with a British accent. The fact that it's been so long means she must have went back to Ethiopia? Right? Or lying low in a small Ethiopian community in the United States? According to what I found by Google, the largest Ethiopian populations are in NYC and the DC area. There's even an area in the DC metro-area called Little Ethiopia. If Sophie spoke English with a British accent then is it possible that she may be in the United Kingdom? I know Ethiopia was once a colony under Britain but was given full sovergnity in World War II.

It's possible. If she remained in the states you'd think an Ethiopian who sounds British would kinda stand out. Unless she spent so much time here, her voice became "Americanized"

I think she still probably has the British accent still. I personally believe she's probably living in the United Kingdom somewhere, probably settled down by now with a husband and kids.

This is a common AMW case that I still remember. I would like to point out (you probably already knew) that Ethiopia was never a British colony. In fact, it was one of two African countries that was never colonized. It was however, invaded by Italy in the 1930s, but was liberated by the UK in World War II. |

She must be hiding in the UK under a false identity. Only way to catch her is to send an age enhanced sketch to Scotland Yard and Interpol with a sum up of what she did as well as to check any citizen who looks like her living under a false identity.

New forum member ericharvey brought it up, leading me to recall Pakman's episode guide that the Hughes brothers (directors of Menace 2 Society) actually directed the Sophie David re-enactment!

Also, I know we talked about the actress who played her, but as I mentioned in the episode request subforum, was there apparently yet a different woman mistaken for her? The article makes no mention of her being the actress in the re-enactment. While I'm sure it wasn't initially, the woman who played Sophie David seemed to have a sense of humor about it, I can swear I remember an AMW show recounting its' history and the woman "bragging" that she was arrested five times lol. (If I remember correctly). This was a high-profile case directed by two now famous Hollywood directors, so I imagine it would make headlines if she was ever caught. |

There is an Ethiopian community here in the D.C. area which includes Maryland and Northern Virginia. If she’s lived in the states since 1991, I think her accent could have been Americanized, but then again she could have travelled to the U.K. Immediately after the crime.
Also the possibility of her likely going back to Ethiopia is very small IMO since it was in 1991 that their brutal civil war came to an end, so my best bet is that she’s in the U.K. And traveling back and forth to France, Staying at expensive hotels.

I remember when AMW had this case on its website, the last update indicated that they had virtually no leads in this case.
If they have proof she has fled CA, the FBI should consider putting this case on their website. I don’t believe David meets the criteria for the Ten Most Wanted List, but some publicity would really help this case.

I have to admit,this is one of the fugitives I'm surprised hasn't been taken down one way or another given the fact her lifestyle seems to be one where she'll be out in the open more often then not.

Has there been any age enhanced sketch of her made to this date? Why hasn't been this sketch sent to Scotland Yard, Interpol and in the California Police departments? Those are two big questions that can bring answers solving the case. |
