Case number: 98B102169
Responsible Agency: Vermont State Police - Major Crime Unit
This case, known as the PMI fire, involved a fire at PMI, a company based in Lyndonville, VT that manufactured large rolls of paper. The PMI commercial building caught fire and burned. St. Johnsbury Fire Fighter Eugene McDonough died during suppression efforts when a wall collapsed on top of him.
During this investigation, the cause of this fire was determined to be Arson. Due to the cause classification, Eugene McDonough’s death has been rule a homicide. This case remains unsolved.

Thoughts? It seems whoever set fire to PMI probably had a grudge against the company. Whether it's that or some sort of prank gone awry, this is why arson is considered such a serious crime. The person who set fire perhaps didn't mean for anybody to die- especially of course a firefighter who just happened to arrive and try to put the flames out- but now as a result they face murder charges if they're ever caught.
