COLUMBUS - Columbus Police are looking for two people who may be responsible for the death of a former college basketball standout.
Desmond Allison, who formerly played basketball for the University of Kentucky, was shot and killed on July 25, 2011 at the 2000 block of Maryland Avenue at 3:45 p.m., according to police.
Allison got into an argument with a black female on the day of the shooting.
Police say that during that argument, three black males arrived at the scene and jumped from a mini-van.
One man began fighting with Allison and shot him.
The suspects also allegedly shot Malcolm Goff, police say. That victim survived.
One suspect, Richard Lee Willis, has been arrested.
The other two suspects are still at large.
One of those suspects is approximately 5'6" to 5'8" in height, according to police.
Anyone with information about this crime should call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
The caller could qualify for a cash reward.
Thoughts? According to a now older but probably still accurate ESPN article from 2011, the argument may have started after an ex-girlfriend took a baseball cap off Allison's head. I am surprised to see this case get not that much publicity (imo) over these past 7 plus years considering it involved the death of an athlete on a popular college basketball team. Of course, to Allison's family, he was more than simply an athlete. It's great that one person believed to be a part of Allison's murder was arrested, but everyone responsible needs to be brought to justice as well.
