From greenvillesun.com:
Edwin Frazier Jones was a pillar of the Baileyton community, well-liked and highly respected. His murder 23 years ago today sent shock waves through the close-knit town and spurred an intensive investigative effort to find the person or persons responsible.
A multi-agency task force was formed last year to help solve the 1995 crimes, and Sheriff Pat Hankins said Wednesday that investigators are very close to cracking the case.
Help from the public is needed more than ever.
“The least little thing that someone saw may be just what we need to finish this up,” Hankins said.
Jones, 76, was shot and killed during a robbery on Jan. 4, 1995, at the Jones & Sons Grocery at 60 Brunner St., Baileyton. The site of the store still stands today, now converted to residential apartments.
For many, passing the building is a painful reminder of justice unserved.
“He was a good man and he was killed, and the family needs closure on it. And we really feel strongly we are closer to doing that,” Hankins said.
The task force consists of investigators from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, retired detectives who worked the case for many years and the use of technological tools not available at the time the crime was committed.
“We’ve submitted all evidence to the TBI forensic lab. They didn’t have the same (DNA) technology then,” Hankins said.
The public has gotten on board and provided many useful tips that have served to move the investigation forward.
“We’ve used these tools and come up with a lot of new stuff. In the past year, we’ve had many people coming forward and helping us a lot,” Hankins said.
An anonymous tip line for anyone with information can be dialed at 423-972-7000. Callers can also use the regular number of the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, 423-798-1800.
“We believe we are really closer to solving that case. A lot of people have come forward,” Hankins said.

Thoughts? It sounds like despite it now being over 23 years later, Frazier Jones' murder is not necessarily a cold case. I would urge anyone who thinks they have some detail but didn't think it was that important or that it would necessarily lead to a killer or killers to take the chance and make a call anyway. Some minor detail you thought was unimportant at the time might actually be what cracks the case wide open.
