(Above photo credit: news5cleveland.com) From NBC Cleveland (wkyc.com): WOOSTER, Ohio -- Police are hunting for a wanted fugitive who was last around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wooster. The manhunt began when officers responded to a Wal-Mart in the 3800 block of Burbank Road in Wooster after wanted fugitive James Bubba Schmidt was spotted. Upon seeing police, Schmidt allegedly got inside a vehicle with a woman and sped off. A high-speed chase ensued through Wayne County. Authorities say Schmidt opened fire at the pursuing officers, striking several police vehicles. Schmidt lost control of the vehicle in a field near Orrville, and fled the scene on foot while again allegedly shooting at police. One officer returned fire, but Schmidt escaped. Nobody was hurt, but Schmidt remains on the loose. Authorities warn that Schmidt should not be approached because he’s considered to be armed and dangerous. He has multiple felony warrants for his arrest: Assault, aggravated menacing, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, resisting arrest and obstruction of official business. Additional charges are expected. Anybody with information on Schmidt’s whereabouts are asked to contact the Wooster Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 330-287-5720.www.wkyc.com/news/crime/manhunt-underway-for-dangerous-fugitive-who-escaped-wooster-police/496901203Thoughts?
