Saw a tv show called "Fugitive Chronicles" this morning, which profiled the search for "Bonnie & Clyde" bank robbers Craig Pritchert & Nova Guthrie, who were also on America's Most Wanted and Unsolved Mysteries. (I've been on the record I've never been a big fan of comparing every fugitive couple to Bonnie and Clyde but it is a good narration for tv shows).
The show was part law enforcement issues with a voice-over supposedly using Pritchert's account as the narration. Pritchert claimed that they would flee the country every time they saw themselves on America's Most Wanted and that they saw themselves on AMW no matter where they fled in the world- Dominican Republic, Israel, Cyprus etc...
They eventually settled, according to Pritchert, in Cape Town South Africa because it was one of the few English speaking countries that did not air America's Most Wanted. (Interesting tidbit). Of course they wound up being captured there anyway. (Indirect captures as a result of someone seeing their wanted poster, but still good captures)
Pritchert was sentenced to 23 years and is scheduled for release in 2026. Nova Guthrie was sentenced to 10 and was released in 2012.
Out of curiosity, I looked up what I could find for Nova Guthrie on Google and she seems to have turned her life around, teaching yoga to female inmates and becoming a certified yoga instructor in prison and apparently her post-prison life as well.
The FBI agent interviewed on the show seemed to have faith she'd turn her life around as well, stating she was an intelligent woman who just made a mistake picking Craig Pritchert as a partner. Sure enough, he seems to be right.
He doesn't have the same faith in Pritchert, stating even in his 60's, he will be one of the only 60 year old bank robbers in America.
Interesting case, glad to see at least another example of a fugitive turning their life around as we can only truly say that about three people max from the AMW capture roster (besides the ones that turned out to be innocent). I guess we'll wait and see what happens with Pritchert, which thankfully isn't for another roughly 9 years.
