For anyone interested, there will be a 2-part A&E series tonight and Monday night at 9 PM ET on A&E about Elizbeth Smart. I realize there's been a lot of coverage about her, but since she seems to have participated, I think this will be a well done and interesting series that isn't exploitative. I'm assuming John Walsh may comment on it as well. The good news is The Hunt ends at 9 PM ET so if you're home you'll be able to watch both. radiowest.kuer.org/post/conversation-elizabeth-smart

She was actually on Reddit the other night doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything). I read some highlights of it, and she gave some pretty good answers to the questions. Somebody actually asked her about Nancy Grace and Elizabeth answered something to the effect of, "I try not to think about her." I was kicking myself for missing it, because I wanted to ask if she still keeps in touch with John Walsh!
Anyway, she was promoting her special during the AMA, which is partially why I think she did it. I unfortunately don't have cable, so I'll have to catch it some other time.

Found the reddit thread www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/7b8qiu/im_elizabeth_smart_abduction_survivor_and/I still think she's a potential future AMW host if the show were ever revived somehow or host of a similar show- I've predicted this in the past, she wound up being a Crime Watch Daily correspondent so I wasn't far off. That probably would have been my question if she would host AMW if the show ever came back so I'm sorry I missed the AMA as well!

I finally finished both parts. Elizabeth Smart was basically the commentator for both parts but they also had family members speak, the Salt Lake Police speak, the FBI agent involved speak, and of course, John Walsh spoke in part 2 (which focused mainly on Elizabeth's recovery).
It was incredibly emotional- John Walsh broke down a few times- but I was also a bit frustrated because I entirely forgot about how stubborn many in the Salt Lake City P.D. were that Richard Ricci, a handyman for the Smarts with a criminal record, was the primary suspect and that they were convinced he kidnapped and killed Elizabeth. Many of them refused to take Elizabeth's sister seriously when she had the realization it might have been Emmanuel a.k.a. Brian Mitchell who took Elizabeth. If it wasn't for John Walsh, who knows where we'd be today with Elizabeth's case.
Also, John Walsh obviously played a key role, but the FBI guy, Mick Fennerty, also frustrated with the local investigation, on his own sent the photo of Brian Mitchell to AMW so I feel like he is an overlooked hero in the recovery of Elizabeth.
It was bittersweet because as much as I love The Hunt and I enjoy Crime Watch Daily, we still don't have a breaking news unsolved true crime show like AMW on the air and I feel like Elizabeth's case is an example of why it's still desperately needed.
Also, there will be a Lifetime made-for-tv movie on Saturday. I realize it's Lifetime, but Elizabeth seems to have participated in it as well, so I don't think it will be the typical stereotype of a Lifetime movie.
