Case Story
House Party Ends With Gunfire
The night of July 23, 2000, a small group of people gathered for a house party in Harrisonburg, Va. One partygoer that night was a Hispanic man who called himself Jose Ramon Sastre-Cintron. Police say Cintron was acting out that night, flashing a handgun -- and even asking people to play Russian roulette. Cops say as the night wore on, people at the party grew frightened by his irrational behavior. 18-year-old Jennifer Bland was also at the party that night, and she'd been asked by the host to keep her car keys from anyone who might try to drive that night -- a task Jennifer took very seriously. Cops say around 2 a.m., Sastre-Cintron approached Jennifer and demanded the car keys, but Jennifer refused. That's when cops say Sastre-Cintron tried to settle the argument the easy way: by pulling out his weapon, a .22 caliber handgun.
Who Is Jose Sastre-Cintron?
Cops say Jose Sastre-Cintron pulled the trigger -- but the gun didn't go off. He allegedly fired again -- and that's when a bullet struck Jennifer in the neck, paralyzing her from the neck down. In a desperate move, police say Sastre-Cintron took off, and forced one of the witnesses to the shooting into the car. According to police, Sastre-Cintron drove his hostage around for fifteen minutes before dropping off his passenger and vanishing into the night. It was only after the crime that another mystery came to light: who was the man calling himself Jose Sastre-Cintron? As police investigated the shooting, they say they discovered that the real Jose Sastre-Cintron was already in custody in Puerto Rico at the time. They have no idea who the man using the name really is, but they speculate that he may be an illegal alien living as a transient. At the time of the shooting, he worked at a poultry factory in Harrisonburg, and was described by coworkers as an average employee -- but cops say behind the scenes, he was a drug user who showed violent tendencies when high. The man claiming to be Sastre-Cintron had lived in Martinsburg, W.V. as recently as July 2004. But no one knows what's become of him since then.
Life In The Aftermath
Jennifer, the victim of this mysterious shooter, was lucky enough to survive. Even so, her life has not been the same since. She is confined to a wheelchair and has had countless operations as a result of the shooting. But Jennifer is a fighter. Although the incident initially left her paralyzed from the neck down, Jennifer fought hard and eventually regained use of her arms. Her legs remain paralyzed, but the former high school cheerleader is now able to wiggle one of her toes, and maintains hope that someday she may be able to walk again."
Unfortunately Jennifer passed away in 2009. www.kygers.com/current-obituaries-topmenu-38/33-february-2009/349-jennifer-m-bland
Also, just want to make sure if anyone can confirm that picture is Jose Ramirez. That is what I found on the Harrison most wanted site after searching for him in Google images.
The mystery of course seems to be no one knows who this really is and what his real name is except that apparently is not Jose Sastre-Cintron and who knows if its Ramirez as well.
It does seem possible he went back to Mexico but in my opinion since it was said he was living as a transient, it's still possible he's still wandering around elsewhere in the U.S.
Thoughts? Jose Castro-Cintron is of this posting still listed on the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Crime Solvers website as a wanted fugitive.
