OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Imagine getting a horrifying call that your son was shot and then later died. That's what one family is going through. The shooting happened January 20th near NW 47th and N Western.
“Nothing's going to bring my son back, I don't want any other family's going through this,” said Jose Gallegos Sr.
The request is simple, get the suspect who shot and killed his son, Jose Gallegos Jr., off the streets.
“Say something. Just please, don't let this happen again,” Gallegos said. “I don't want another family going through the same pain that we did.”
Leaving behind a torn up family, four sisters, a mother and a father, Jose told FOX 25 they're living in fear because the person who killed his son is still on the loose.
“That's the reason we don't want to show our faces on camera because we fear for ourselves,” said Gallegos. “I have kids. I don't want anybody coming around shooting through the window.”
On January 20th, police said Jose’s son and a roommate heard a knock at the door. Moments later, a suspect or suspects fired shots through the door, ultimately killing Gallegos and injuring the roommate.
“You fast-forward to six months later, where we are now. The case remains unsolved. Investigators have not been able to identify a suspect in this case,” said Oklahoma City Police, Msgt. Gary Knight.
The Gallegos family and police are asking for the public's help.
Even though his son isn't here, there's one thing he'll always remember.
“I just love the way he smiles. He was just so positive,” said Gallegos. “Just looking at him makes you so comfortable. Makes you feel that everything's ok.”
Police are hoping to clarify if this shooting was a drive by or if the suspect was on foot. Officers said they don't have enough information to narrow down exactly what happened outside.
If you have any information, you can call the homicide tip line (405) 297-1200.
