Sonia Paine, one of the bravest and toughest women ever featured on America's Most Wanted, has died at age 92. For those long-time AMW viewers, AMW ran a segment a few times about how she helped take down Nick George "Little Nick" Montos in the mid-1990's. Montos was a career criminal who was once on the FBI's top 10 list when he attempted to rob her antiques store in Brookline, Massachusetts and tied her up. The then 73-year old Paine managed to untie herself and then attacked Montos with a baseball bat, during the struggle Paine managed to push the silent alarm, the police came and took the bloodied Montos out on a stretcher. The story of her bravery was ran a few times on America's Most Wanted in the 1990's and early 2000's. My favorite part was when she said something like "pardon me but I beat the sh** out of him" LOL May this great woman rest in peace. www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2017/07/31/sonia-paine-knew-when-flee-and-when-fight/dEOChk5trCu4NfcrIbyBkO/story.html

I hope that during Sonia's 92 years she made a wonderful impression and impact on the people in her life that she loved and for her friends as well. She is a true inspiration to all of us as to how we can fight back and make a difference in our own way.
R.I.P. Sonia

Sonia Paine was one of my favorite AMW Hero segments the show ever featured. She may have looked like a little old lady, but she was tough. I saw her segment both on AMW during the summer of 2004 and during her Final Justice profile. As of the 2004 update on her, she was still working at the antique shop part-time, and still had the baseball bat, which was hung up on the wall of her shop with the phrase, "Shoplifters will be beaten to death" on it. I had no idea she was 92 years old, but I'm not surprised she lived so long; Sonia proved she was a fighter, in all aspects of life.
Rest in peace, Sonia Paine.

Sort of changing the subject, but the other hero segment I remember is that senior citizen who got a heart transplant from a teen who died in a car accident. He saved a bunch of fellow seniors from a disgruntled fired worker from their senior living community who opened fire on a meeting of theirs was a gun after he tackled him from behind.
It was terribly cheesy- the actor playing him yells out "he's got a gun!" and I'm thinking "duh they all see the gun" but still a cool act of bravery. Sadly some of his fellow seniors did die but it would have been even worse if not for his heroism.
I'm assuming he may have unfortunately passed away by now as well although I'm not sure we'd find out.

Actually, the teen was killed in a drive-by shooting, not a car accident. And the shooter was upset that the homeowner's association told him to take care of his property, at least according to AMW's reenactment.
As far as I can tell, the man who received the transplant, Lyle Baade, is still alive. I found an obituary for his sister-in-law, who died last year, and it said he's one of the people she was survived by.

Hey you're asking me to remember all the details from a re-enactment from 10 years ago gimme a break lol. I am glad Lyle Baade is seemingly still alive though. Whenever his time comes, he'll have lived a great heroic life.
