In early 2000, Rayed Bukhari was living with his wife in South Plainfield, New Jersey where they were operating an internet business. She testified that she felt financially trapped by Rayed and that he had threatened to kill her as well. In March of 2000, authorities say that Rayed sexually assaulted her while wielding a three-inch sword. She went to the local authorities that September after she told them that Rayed had slapped her 200 times.
Rayed was brought to trial in 2001 and the trial got to the stage where the jury began deliberating according to Newslibrary. At some point then or afterwards, Rayed went on the run.

Thoughts? The article through Newslibrary mentions that Rayed is of Pakistani descent so there’s a good chance that he fled to the nation in the Middle East. If so, it’s pretty unlikely that he would be captured and extradited so we have to hope that he travels back to the US and gets arrested at customs.
