In 1980, Sam Gene Harris escaped from a Misssissippi prison where he was serving four years for shoplifting. Over the years, he committed mostly theft related crimes across the US and evaded authorities by using several aliases. He was arrested today in Utah. Simply put, he could have avoided needing to live a life on the run by not escaping from his four-year sentence and stopping his life of crime. www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2015/01/23/mississippi-fugitive-found-utah-fbi/22243481/

^ You know, I wonder if there's going to be more fugitives caught that way in the coming years. The Baby Boomers are all getting ready to retire, and many will probably try to apply for government benefits. There's a good possibility a lot of fugitives in that age group (50s-60s) could get found that way.

Well if these guys really want the Government to take care of them without having to pay for it, they might as well turn themselves in and get free prison food.

In 1959, Frank Freshwaters escaped from an Ohio where he was serving a probation violation sentence. His original conviction was killing a pedestrian in an automobile accident. In 1975, he was arrested in West Virginia but was not extradited and he escaped again. The US Marshals cold case unit determined he was in Melbourne, Florida and arrested the now 79-year old fugitive without incident, admitting his identity when in custody. www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/local-escapee-frank-freshwaters-caught-in-florida-after-56-years-on-the-runIn other words, a fugitive on the run for 56 years was located alive and arrested!

In 1994, David Doyle Abbey Jr became a fugitive out of Marin County, California. His warrants consisted of DUI and Hit and Run Causing Death. According to David, he had never left California and recently moved to the community of Anderson. A police officer investigating stolen bicycles encountered David and checked the serial number on his bicycle, that's when the 21-year old warrant was uncovered. When arrested, David was relieved that he "didn't have to look over his shoulder anymore". www.krcrtv.com/news/local/-fugitive-hides-in-plain-sight-for-21-years-in-the-northstate/34795078
