Spartanburg County, S.C. —
Ten years have passed since a double homicide in Spartanburg County, and it's still unclear who committed the killings.
Monday's anniversary of the July 16 homicides has the mother of one of the victims calling attention to the case. Marcie Davis, mother of Zachary Cunard, held a prayer vigil and balloon release at her home in Campobello.
"We're just hoping to generate some publicity," Davis told News4's Mike McCormick. "Somebody had to see something and they just don't realize what they seen."
Cunard, 23, and Michael McGraw, 32, were found shot to death in Cunard's home on Dickson Road in a wooded area near Lake Bowen in Spartanburg County.
Cunard's wife, who was pregnant at the time, found the bodies.
The couple's son, Zachary, who's named after his father, will turn 10 in September.
"He's just like his dad, just like him. It's like a blessing for me," Davis said. "I tell him all the time about his dad, and tell him stories about his dad. I've took him to the grave yard, so he knows where he's buried."
When asked what it has been like not knowing his dad, Zachary said, "I'm really not sure. Since I haven't had him, I'm not sure how it would be without having him, really. He was really nice. Everybody liked him, that's pretty much all I know, really."
William Gary, senior investigator with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, was at the vigil.
"This is one I'm familiar with basically from day one," Gary told McCormick. "We've gotten a lot of information over the years."
Gary said the investigation showed that, aside from the victims, at least two people were in the house at the time of the homicides. Gary said he believes that one victim, not both, was the target of the crimes.
Anyone with information about the homicides should call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. There is a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
