In 2000, Riad Baroud chose to remain in Canada after his family was deported. He went to work for a pizza business ran by Savang Sychantha as he had gotten to know Savang really well. As a result, Riad got involved in Savang's drug activities as well and became financially indebted to him. On April 22, 2002, Savang and an accomplice kidnapped Riad, restrained him and brutally beat him to death.
After Riad was murdered, Savang fled to his native Laos in Southeast Asia. However it's believed he may have returned to Canada, possibly to the cities of Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver under an alias.

Thoughts? What happened to Riad is a reality a lot of immigrants have to contend with when they're all alone in a new country. It appears that he was looking to earn an honest living at Savang's pizza business, but was young and got caught up in the drug trade that he could not get out of. What is especially tragic is that Riad was just 18-years of age when he was murdered.
